Land Acknowledgement: We acknowledge that our MyXC Saturday Ski Club resides within Mni Sota Makoce - A Dakota Place and that this land has been the homeland of the Dakota people and the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Seven Council Fire) for every generation since their creation at Bdote. Mni Sota - the land where waters reflect the clouds - is Indigenous land. We encourage all members of our ski community to join us in learning more about the people, contributions, sovereignty, and treaty rights of the Dakota People. The MyXC Organization and Club will continue to strengthen our relationship with Mni Sota’s eleven sovereign nations and indigenous communities, families, and athletes.
Backup Plan: In the event of no snow, we will meet at Hyland Lake Park Preserve, Saturdays at 3:30pm-5:00pm. Please see below for directions.

Welcome to the Hiawatha Saturday afternoon Ski Club. We are so excited about the 2027 ski season! Whether your family is new to cross-country skiing or you're a veteran Ski Club participant or volunteer we are excited to have you in our club.

Ski Club is volunteer-led and our success depends upon family involvement. We encourage every family to help in some way. For more information on volunteering or to sign-up please visit the MyXC website volunteer portal. Returning volunteers do need to do a new volunteer sign-up.

- THANK YOU to our awesome coaches, assistant coaches, and sweepers (these folks get advanced registration. Please sign up!)
- We are planning to have post-club snacks again this season so look for the sign-up as we get this organized.
- The Hiawatha Hustle is our capstone event at the end of the season and we will need lots of volunteers to make it an awesome afternoon! This is a fun, end of season, celebration of skiing with ALL Hiawatha Ski Clubs. We haven't made a decision on date for the event this year but we're hopeful that after three years of bad weather we'll be able to hold it again in 2027.

Schedule

We will meet for eight Saturdays beginning January 2rd, 2027 at Hiawatha Golf Course. Our last club meeting will be February 20th.

***Please note that the first session or two we are going to be assessing the skills of skiers to ensure that we have groups that make sense skill-wise for Coaches. If you're not sure which level your skier should be in there's a couple of things to check. First, if this is not your first year with MyXC then login to the website and go to your family dashboard. Many skiers (but not all) will have a skill report card there with a recommendation from their coach last year on which level to sign up for. If you're new to MyXC or your skier dos not have a skill report card check these skills cards or this link from SkiSparks for some idea. If you have any questions about level assignment please feel free to email.***

Session Location and Timing

We ski at the Hiawatha Golf Course and meet in the open area just south of the Solomon R. Hughes Sr. Clubhouse. Ski club starts at 2PM. Level 1 skiers will meet for 60 minutes. Levels 2-6 will meet for 90 minutes.

Backup Session Location and Timing

If snow conditions at Hiawatha Golf Course don't allow skiing for all of our levels we will meet at our backup location at Hyland Lake Park Reserve. 10145 Bush Lake Road Bloomington, MN 55438. Unfortunately we cannot get a permit to start at our usual 2PM time so if we ski at Hyland we will start at 3:30PM. We meet near the warming house named Jan's Place. Please reference the image below. The park entrance is the blue dot and our club will meet at the green dot.

Registration

Registration will open in October with the schedule below.
Oct 1, Phase 1 Skier Registration (for Leadership Team) Oct 8, Phase 2 Skier Registration (for Primary on snow volunteers) Oct 19, Phase 3 Skier Registration (for all Volunteers) Oct 24, Public Registration 9am

As you can see volunteers get priority registration and as a result priority for rentals. Skate ski rentals are extremely limited and it's unlikely that any non-volunteer will be able to get them.

Equipment

Most skiers in the Hiawatha Saturday club are able to get rental equipment. MyXC rentals are for the entire season which means skiers can get out and ski outside of club meetings. It's a great way to have fun as a family and practice skills learned at club meetings. Level 1 skiers do not need poles for club meetings.

If you missed out on rentals or if you want to purchase equipment for your skier(s) or other family members there are a few options available:

  • The MyXC Ski Swap is on November 21st this year. This is a BIG and popular event. So much so that sale entry requires a timed entry ticket. There is a lottery for this. The lottery opens on October 26th and closes on November 12th. Volunteers are needed to help run the event and they get an early shopping window. For more information check out the link above.
  • Skinny Ski keeps a list of ski swaps and sales on their website. This is a great resource when looking for deals. Keep in mind that this is a regional resource so check location of the sales you're looking at.
  • There are many quality outdoor equipment retailers around town if you're looking for new equipment. Shop early for the best selection.
  • Some of the general used athletic equipment shops like Play It Again Sports will carry cross country ski equipment. There can be good deals on equipment but it's advisable to know what you're looking for when shopping at general purpose shops. Often the staff isn't knowledgeable about sizing equipment properly and we've even seen situations where they sold boots that were not compatible with the purchased skis.

Minneapolis Parks Ski Passes

Hiawatha is a natural snow park and ski passes are required for all skiers age 12 and older. All on-snow volunteers will also need ski passes. For more information on ski passes and to see if you qualify for a discount please click this link.
